Job Description

Human Rights & Humanitarian Fundraiser - $20/hr + Bonuses

$20/hour guaranteed + bonuses | Full-Time & Part-Time | Paid training | NYC

Care about human rights, humanitarian aid, equality, or helping people affected by conflict and poverty?

Turn that passion into work you can actually do every day.

Public Outreach is hiring passionate, outgoing people to join our NYC fundraising team and represent leading nonprofit organizations working to protect human rights, respond to humanitarian emergencies, fight poverty and inequality, and support children and families facing crisis.

No fundraising experience is required.

We're looking for people who care about what's happening in the world, enjoy connecting with others, and want their work to contribute to something meaningful.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

This is face-to-face fundraising.

You'll work with a team throughout NYC, speaking directly with members of the public about important humanitarian and human-rights campaigns.

You'll:

  • Start conversations with people from all walks of life

  • Talk about human rights, humanitarian crises, poverty, inequality, and social justice

  • Share how nonprofit organizations are responding

  • Turn complicated issues into clear, human conversations

  • Inspire people to take action by becoming monthly donors

  • Work toward individual and team fundraising goals

  • Receive regular coaching and support from experienced leaders

This isn't petitioning or volunteer work.

You'll be asking people directly to financially support nonprofit organizations through monthly donations.

THE ISSUES YOU MAY WORK ON

Depending on your campaign, your conversations may involve:

  • Children and families affected by war and displacement

  • Humanitarian emergencies and disaster relief

  • Hunger, poverty, and access to basic necessities

  • Refugees and displaced communities

  • Women's rights and economic opportunity

  • Human and civil rights

  • Racial justice and equality

  • LGBTQ+ rights

  • Reproductive freedom

  • Communities facing inequality and injustice

Campaign assignments can change over time, but the mission remains similar: helping nonprofit organizations build the public support they need to create meaningful change.

YOU DON'T NEED TO BE AN EXPERT

You don't need a nonprofit background or a degree in international relations.

We'll train you on the campaign you're representing and teach you how to fundraise.

We're looking for people who are curious enough to learn, passionate enough to care, and confident enough to start a conversation.

You may be a great fit if you:

  • Pay attention to what's happening in the world

  • Care about human rights, humanitarian issues, or social justice

  • Enjoy meeting and talking with new people

  • Can communicate serious issues with empathy

  • Are comfortable hearing different perspectives

  • Can stay motivated after hearing "no"

  • Are open to feedback and coaching

  • Want work that feels connected to something bigger

THE REALITY OF FUNDRAISING

This work can be incredibly rewarding. It can also be challenging.

You'll approach people you don't know, start conversations, and ask them to become donors.

Some people will stop and listen.

Some won't.

You'll hear "no" regularly.

We'll give you paid training, ongoing coaching, and a supportive team, but you'll need resilience and a willingness to keep improving.

Your hourly pay is guaranteed. Your performance still matters.

PAY & BENEFITS

  • $20/hour guaranteed base pay

  • Bonuses and incentives on top of your hourly wage

  • Paid training from day one

  • Full-time and part-time opportunities

  • Regular coaching and development

  • Opportunities to grow into training and leadership

  • Health, dental, and vision benefits for eligible full-time employees and their families after 3 months

  • Paid time off

  • Employee Assistance Program

This is not commission-only work.

Your $20/hour base wage is guaranteed.

SCHEDULE & LOCATION

You must be able to consistently commit to at least 3 full shifts per week.

Training begins with our Brooklyn team near Dean Street. Once trained, you'll fundraise with your team at locations throughout New York City.

This is active, public-facing work. Expect to spend much of your shift outdoors, walking, standing, and speaking with people.

BEFORE YOU APPLY

Please make sure you:

  • Are 18 or older

  • Are legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship

  • Can reliably commute to Brooklyn for training and to fundraising locations throughout NYC

  • Can commit to at least 3 full shifts per week

  • Are comfortable working outdoors and being active throughout your shift

  • Are comfortable approaching and speaking with strangers

  • Can communicate confidently in English

  • Are comfortable asking people to become monthly donors

  • Are willing to receive coaching and work toward fundraising goals

Previous experience in advocacy, volunteering, nonprofits, community organizing, theatre, hospitality, education, customer service, fundraising, canvassing, or sales can be helpful - but isn't required.

COME AS YOU ARE

We want Public Outreach to be a workplace where people can genuinely be themselves.

Our teams include members of the LGBTQ+ community, and creating an environment where people feel safe, respected, supported, and welcome matters to us.

Queer, trans, and applicants from underrepresented communities are welcome here.

Bring your personality, your perspective, and a willingness to learn.

ABOUT PUBLIC OUTREACH

Public Outreach partners with nonprofit organizations to build sustainable support for causes that matter.

Our fundraisers work directly with the public to raise awareness, inspire action, and turn meaningful conversations into long-term support.

If you're looking for work where your voice, resilience, and ability to connect with people can support causes you genuinely care about, we'd love to meet you.

Public Outreach is an equal opportunity employer. Reasonable accommodations are available throughout the hiring process upon request.
